Special Note for Olney Baptist Church

Hello OBC Readers!

As announced via email and our “all call” phone messaging service, there will be no Sunday school, no morning worship, and no afternoon meetings tomorrow for Olney Baptist Church. This has not an easy decision, because we may very well have sunny skies and full power by late tomorrow morning. And hopefully, we will! However, the deacons and I felt that we should make the decision this evening and get the word out right away, while everyone in our church family still has power and phone service.

I personally hate to cancel church, and I’m sorry if this decision is disappointing to anyone. The storm may not cause that many problems for Olney. Then again, we could wake up tomorrow and be faced with a lot of downed trees, flooded basements, power outages, phone service problems, etc. We just don’t know. We do know that the worst of Irene will hit tonight and early tomorrow, and we want everyone in our OBC family to be safe. And we want to be sensitive to those in our church family who tonight or tomorrow morning may be faced with storm damage, minor flooding, and/or power issues in their homes.

I will be posting a devotional charge shortly in lieu of my planned message for tomorrow. It’s not the same as a live sermon, I know. But I hope it will be an encouragement to you. Next Sunday, September 4, we will complete our “Superheroes of the Bible” series. My online “sermonette,” which I will post by tomorrow morning, will be on a different subject. In the meantime, please pray for those in this storm’s path. Pray also for those workers engaged in providing emergency services, medical support, power restoration, etc.

God bless all of you!
